There are only a few things worse than waking up at 4am on a day when you are supposed to be able to sleep in until seven. One of those things may very well be when you are floating in the depths of a peaceful dream only to be jolted awake with the gut-wrenching need to get into the bathroom and drain your stomach of its contents from the night before. But what if you went to bed with an empty stomach? That stomach is still going to be empty at 4am, so now you get an even worse scenario: sitting in the cold bathroom dry heaving for 20 minutes or more at 4am when you should still be in your warm bed preparing for the busy day ahead.
Now it is 4:30am. My stomach is somewhat appeased so I head back to bed, hoping that the worst is over. And it was, until around 7am when I was given the honor of reliving the entire incident first hand.
Since I didn’t technically HAVE to be up until around 7:20am I decided to go back to sleep with the hope that when I woke it would be more like a bad dream then something I was going to have to deal with all day, but that was when the heart burn started. I don’t know if it was due to the acid that came up from my stomach, but never have I had such excruciating pain in my chest before. It was at this time that I decided that heading to work was probably not going to happen so I called in and got Ethan going for school. Once he was on the bus and on his merry way I got back in bed and had dreams of ways to get rid of the heart burn..
I woke again at noon, again with the dry heaves, again with the heart burn and decided to look up causes of my extreme discomfort. Naturally, the first thing that pops up when you Google “chest pain” is “heart attack” and after reading over all the symptoms it did seem like it was plausible, but not likely so I moved on. Another site that I came across said that Stomach Ulcers are a big cause of heart burn, and that if that is what is causing the issue, it should go away after eating. Since it was now 4 hours after the start of the pain I was desperate for anything and decided that if it didnt go away soon I was going to have to visit the doctors (I have insurance, I just don’t like going in unless I know its something that is not going to go away on its own). I went out and got myself a bowl of honey nut cherrios and what do you know? Not ten minutes later all pain has ceased.
Done.
Not an ail in the world.
Ok, stomach, I have a request. In the future if you are wanting food, it is probably a good idea to send HUNGER signals instead of NAUSEA pains; the last thing I am going to want to do after sitting in front of toilet for 20 minutes is put anything in my stomach that I will get to feel come right back up at anytime in the future. Thank you for your understanding.
